REBECCA PETIT HAYS SHELTON, DIRECTOR
Rebecca (Becky) is the daughter of William Seward Hays, Sr. and Alice Kathryn Sipe. She is the great-great-granddaughter of Captain Abraham Hays. Becky grew up in the Pittsburgh area, but is now living in Ellicott City, Maryland, where she teaches high school mathematics at Glenelg High School in Howard County.
Becky received a BA Degree in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee, a MS Degree in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University and a MA in Teaching Degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.
After graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1981, Becky worked at The Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Linthicum, Maryland as a software test engineer for about 17 years. During that time, she contributed to the success of a variety of projects involving ground radars, airborne radars, radar jammers, weather satellites and bus tracking .
After working with computers for over 17 years, Becky decided it was time for a change and went back to school in 1998 to become a secondary mathematics teacher. She started teaching mathematics at Glenelg High School in 2002, where she is still teaching today. She loves working with her students and instilling in them a passion for mathematics and problem solving.
Becky is an active member of the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Ellicott City, Maryland, where she and her husband were married. Becky and Rick have been married for 19 years and have four children (Tim, Kim, Christina, Bev) and one grandchild (Krystal).
